WEEK 4 TEAM OF THE WEEK

by Pete Richmire

Week 4 of the 2021 MASL season is in the books and it included an overtime thriller and a goalkeeper going coast-to-coast to score a goal and today, the league has announced the Team of the Week.

Holding the Tacoma Stars to just three goals was not enough for St. Louis goalkeeper Paulo Nascimento. In the fourth quarter of their 5-3 win over Tacoma, he found a seam on the right side of the field and took the ball deep into their attacking zone and fired a shot off a Stars defender into the net for the first keeper goal of the season.

A pair of Ambush midfielders were honored this week as well as Max Ferdinand and Stefan Mijatovic also named. Ferdinand assisted on Mijatovic’s goal which put the Ambush in front for good in the third quarter and Mijatovic finished with two goals and an assist.

Stars forward Nick Perera assisted on all three Tacoma goals in St. Louis Sunday and he had a goal and assist in Friday’s 6-5 overtime win in Kansas City. It was Tacoma midfielder Cory Keitz who was the biggest difference in that match as he scored the game tying goal with 1:31 left in the fourth quarter and followed that up with the game-winner in overtime.

Comets defender Alvaro Beltran scored a pair of goals for Kansas City, including the first of the game for KC with 6:20 to play in the first. His second marker was the first of the second half for the Comets and built Kansas City’s lead to 5-3.
