WAVE TOP ST. LOUIS IN OVERTIME THRILLER SUNDAY AT FAMILY ARENA
In a game that was dominated by the St. Louis Ambush from the start, the 7-time champion Milwaukee Wave found a way to claw back into it; send the game to overtime and pull out a much needed win in the final seconds Sunday afternoon at The Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri.
“Obviously, we have some things to work on and have to stop digging holes for ourselves; especially on the road,” said Milwaukee Wave Head Coach Giuliano Oliviero. “I just love that the team never gave up tonight despite the circumstances.”
Milwaukee Wave Forward #9 Derek Huffman was the man of the match scoring 3 goals on the night, including an assist and the golden goal overtime winner.
“Just a ton of quality out of Derek tonight,” exclaimed Oliviero. “He’s missed the last two games because of injury and to be honest, we almost didn’t bring him on this trip and low and behold; he comes up huge for us!”
Defender #77 Marcio Leite had an amazing game as well with one goal and four assists. Forward #7 Ricardo Carvalho had a pair of goals and Midfielder #15 Cesar Correa and Forward / Capitan Ian Bennett added a goal each for the Wave.
“It doesn’t get any easier for us from here on out,” added Oliviero. “We’ve got Baltimore next Saturday in our third road game in a row and right now they are playing their best soccer of the year so we need to rest up, recover and put the best possible team out on the field next week. We’ll be ready.”
The Wave return home to UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena Friday, March 8 at 6:35pm CT vs. Utica and Sunday, March 10 at 1:05pm CT vs. St. Louis.
Tickets are on sale now at MilwaukeeWave.com or at the Box Office one hour prior to game start.
