WAVE HOST SOCKERS IN OPENING GAME OF PLAYOFFS THURSDAY

MILWAUKEE, WI - After one of the worst starts in team history, the 7-time champion Milwaukee Wave were able to pull themselves together amid many injuries, and found their stride towards the end of season to clinch the 8th playoff seed.

But they will have a tough road ahead of them as they face the San Diego Sockers in Game 1/3 of the MASL Ron Newman Cup Playoffs Thursday at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.

“We are doing everything we can to prepare for best record and roster in the league,” said Head Coach Giuliano Oliviero. “We have our work cut out for us but are very happy to be in this position after the season we’ve had.

The #1 seed, San Diego Sockers come into the playoffs with a flawless 23-0 regular season record. While the #8 seed Wave finished the regular season with 10 wins and 12 losses.

“I think people forget we’ve never had an opportunity to defend our last championship title in 2019,” added Oliviero. “This opening round is essentially the last two champions going head to head and I think we have enough experience to make it an interesting series.”
