WAVE DROPS THRILLER IN UTICA SUNDAY
After taking care of business Friday at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena against the St. Louis Ambush; the 7-time champion Milwaukee Wave headed east to take on division rivals Utica City FC Sunday afternoon and came up on the losing end of a back and forth game.
“Give Utica credit; they had a great crowd and played smart,”said Milwaukee Wave Head Coach Giuliano Oliviero. “I’m really happy how our guys battled back in this game but to lose the way we did is not fair to our guys.”
Utica came out of the gates sizzling score the first three goals of the game before #29 Salvador Nunez put one in the back of the net to put the Wave on the board. City FC would answer back with one more goal before the half.
“We just kept gift wrapping them (Utica) goals in the first half and they certainly took advantage,” exclaimed Oliviero. “Getting that first goal in the second half was big for us; it gave us some momentum and it just built up from there.”
Second half goals for the Wave were scored by Andre Hayne, Marcio Leite (Max Ferdinand), Ian Bennett (Breno Oliveira) and Troy Morrison (Salvador Nunez).
The Wave returns home with a lot to work on before heading back out to St. Louis, Sunday, February 25 to face the Ambush once again. First kick is at 2:05pm CT from The Family Arena in St, Charles, MO. Watch the game LIVE! and for FREE! via MASL on Twitch.tv.
“We can’t take St. Louis lightly, added Oliviero. “It’s very difficult to win on the road and we know we have our work cut out for us; we have just got to stay in that playoff hunt and as far as Utica is concerned; I think the tempo is going to be very electric the next time we play them. We are looking forward to it!”
The Wave will have one more road game Saturday, March 2 against the Baltimore Blast at 5:05pm CT before returning home to UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena Friday, March 8 at 6:35pm CT vs. Utica and Sunday, March 10 at 1:05pm CT vs. St. Louis.
