Milwaukee, WI – The St. Louis Ambush lost 8-7 in overtime to the Milwaukee Wave Sunday afternoon at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena. The loss drops the Ambush to 5-7-1 on the season, while the Wave improved to 4-6-1.

Milwaukee got an early advantage just 29 seconds into the game when Ambush goalkeeper Jose Resendiz got a blue card for tripping, resulting in a penalty kick that Ian Bennett easily put in the net. The score would be knotted by the end of the first quarter as Milwaukee scored two more courtesy of Luan Oliveira and Derek Huffman with St. Louis goals coming from Pepe Junqueira, William Eskay and Robert Kristo.

The back-and-forth continued in the second period with Milwaukee taking a 4-3 lead when Marcio Leite scored, but the Ambush answered on tallies from Mohamed Ndiaye and Triston Austin to take a 5-4 lead at the halftime break.

The third stanza remained scoreless until 9:16 when Eskay nailed his second of the contest and the only goal of the quarter to increase the Ambush lead to 6-4. Milwaukee clawed back in the fourth quarter when Javier Steinwascher and Oliveiro each scored within the first five minutes to once again tie things up. Andrew Wiedebach gave the Wave a 7-6 lead when he scored at 8:44 but the Ambush answered less than a minute later when Ndiaye posted his second of the match to tie the game once again. With neither team scoring before regulation time ran out, the game went into overtime.

Milwaukee wasted no time bringing a quick conclusion to the affair as it took Leite just 28 seconds to find the back of the net and close the book on the Ambush by an 8-7 score.

Referees handed out six blue cards during the game with three going to each team. Matt Perrella took the win in goal for Milwaukee, stopping 11 shots on 18 opportunities (.611 Sv%). Despite the loss, Jose Resendiz turned in a sold performance in goal for St. Louis, making 20 saves in 27 save opportunities (.741 Sv%).
