MKE WAVE KEEPS IT EXCITING IN KANSAS CITY WITH 10-8 WIN OVER THE RIVAL COMETS

Six-Time Champion Milwaukee Wave spoiled the home opening party for the rival Kansas City Comets in front of a sold out crowd Saturday night at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena in Independence, Missouri.

The Wave were dominant in the first half scoring four goals and keeping the Comets to only one. First half goals for Milwaukee were scored by #23 Daniel Chamale (Ian Bennett), #14 Alex Bradley (Andre Hayne), #26 Ian Bennett (Chad Vandegriffe), #9 Robert Renaud (unassisted).

As for the second half, that’s where things got interesting.

Milwaukee wasted no time in the third quarter with goals from #9 Robert Renaud (Ricardinho), and #16 Drew Ruggles (Marcio Leite). It wasn’t until about 7 minutes into the quarter when the Comets woke up and the seesaw battle began.

Each team was almost alternating goals minute by minute until the end of the 3rd / beginning of the 4th quarter. That’s when Kansas City picked up some steam and Comets forward #22 Anthony Grant brought the game within one with a little over a minute remaining.

Just twelve seconds later, Wave midfielder #8 Luan Oliveira scored the final goal of the match with some help from #77 Marcio Leite.

Final score: Milwaukee Wave 10, Kansas City Comets 8

“Anytime you play in another teams building, especially with a home opener and a sold out crowd behind them, they are never out of it,” said Head Coach Giuliano Oliviero. “We know the Comets are a great team and after bringing four veteran players back, it’s certainly going to be a tough battle for the division this season. We’re just glad we we’re able to close it out in the end.”

“The Tropics are very similar to the Comets.” said Oliviero. “They (Florida) have a great offense so we’re going to have to work as a team, defend relentlessly and play hard for a full 60 minutes this time.”
