VETERAN EDDIE VELEZ SIGNS MULTI-YEAR EXTENSION
SAN DIEGO (Monday, May 21, 2018 - #18-7) – The 14-time champion San Diego Sockers announced today that the team has re-signed solid defender Eddie Velez to a contract for the 2018-19 Major Arena Soccer League season. Per league and team policies, details of the agreement were not released.
Velez, who is entering his ninth season with the Sockers, began his career in 2006-07 with the California Cougars in the Major Indoor Soccer League. He has scored 105 goals and tallied 97 assists in his 153-game career with the Cougars, Revolucion Tijuana, and Sockers. Last season, “El Vaquero” had 7 points on three goals and four assists in 14 games played. His best season was in 2010-11 when he notched 30 goals and 22 assists with Tijuana.
Sockers General Manager Sean Bowers stated, “With his experience and leadership, it was important to bring Eddie back for the upcoming season. He is a smart and skillful player who can contribute in many ways to help us reach our goal of winning a championship.”
In the past three weeks, the Sockers have signed four free agents and extended the contracts of Velez, Cesar Cerda and Luis “Pee Wee” Ortega in preparation for the 2018-19 MASL campaign.
