UTICA DOUBLES UP SAVAGE 6-3 IN HOME FINALE

by Michael Lehr/UCFC

Utica NY - Utica City FC entered Sunday needing to win to keep their playoff hopes alive. They wasted no time in jumping out to a 2-0 lead and finished the game with a dominant 6-3 win.

UCFC would score back to back to start the game. First, fan favorite Timmy Goldman buried the ball on an assist from Jake Schindler in the first quarter. Rafa Godoi would follow suit at 3:04 of the 2nd quarter.

Just 21 seconds later, Chihuahua’s David Gonzalez found the back of the net and cut the lead to one. Utica defender Ben Ramin put the City back on top by two with a rocket to the top corner off a feed from Joey Tavernese.

That would be the start of four unanswered goals carrying into the fourth quarter. Quenton Swift, Ronaldinho and Joey Tavernese added the next few. Swift’s goal was off the post and then to himself in front.

Chihuahua would get two late goals to make it interesting, but Utica City held on to win 6-3. They now need the St. Louis Ambush and Ontario Fury to lose tonight to seal their playoff spot.

If UCFC clinches a playoff spot, playoff tickets will go on sale at noon on Monday. Fans can get tickets at uticacityfc.com/tickets or by calling 315-790-9070.
