TROPICS RE-SIGN FORMER ROOKIE OF THE YEAR ZACH REGET TO EXTENSION

LAKELAND, Fla. -- The 2019-20 Major Arena Soccer League Rookie of the Year, Zach Reget, has signed a new one-year contract to remain with the Florida Tropics for the 2021-22 season. Per league and team policy, no further contract information will be released.

Reget burst onto the MASL scene with a 22-goal season for the St. Louis Ambush in 2018-19 - earning Rookie of the Year honors -- before being acquired in that off-season by the Tropics in a trade.

He blasted in another 21 goals in the Covid shortened 2019-20 campaign, and added 15 assists for a career high 36 points in 20 games played. Those totals were tied for second best on the team that year for both goals and points.

Last year, in an injury plagued season, he scored three goals in eight games played. In 52 career pro indoor games, Reget has totaled 46 goals and 26 assists.

"From my perspective, Zach has been a key piece for us the last two years," Head Coach Clay Roberts said. "To have him back is fantastic. He's evolving as one of the main targets in our league. To have the stats he has had on such a loaded team proves that his talent is where it needs to be, and has progressed."

Roberts said he expects a healthy Reget to join the team when training camp starts in early November.

"His importance to us, to play the way that we do, is unparalleled," Roberts added. "He's been playing with a lot of confidence lately with the U.S. National Team (futsal). A confident Zach Reget is a very, very scary thing for this league so we're delighted he's back with us."

A native of Kenosha, Wisconsin, the 26 year-old began playing youth soccer at the age of three,  and played collegiate soccer at Trinity International University, Deerfield, Illinois, where he was a four year starter, He won a litany of individual and team honors including  NCCAA All- American, four time CCAC All- Region Team, two time CCAC first team selection, NCCAA All- Midwest Region first team, team captain, four time Offensive Player of the Year, three time Trinity MVP and third on the list of all-time goal scorers.

The Tropics will kick off their sixth season in the Major Arena Soccer League later this fall at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland, playing a 24-game schedule. The Tropics were the 2019-20 Eastern Conference champions with an 18-3 record. The season and playoffs were cancelled in March that spring because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Last year, the Tropics won the 2021 regular season title with a 10-3 mark, but fell in the first-round of the MASL playoffs to the eventual champion San Diego Sockers in games played on a neutral field in Kansas City.

The league expects to announce its full schedule in the coming weeks, at which time the Tropics will also release information on tickets including a new fan-friendly policy that will allow thousands of local soccer fans to attend MASL games over the winter.  For more information, visit fltropics.com, or any of the team's social media sites.
