Tropics fall to Monterrey, 9-4, in Flash's return to the Major Arena Soccer League

MONTERREY, Mexico – The Monterrey Flash made their return to the Major Arena Soccer League a successful one Sunday night as they defeated the Florida Tropics, 9-4.

Monterrey got two goals from Efrain Martinez and Brayan Aguilar, while Carlos “Chile” Farias assisted on four scores The Flash won the MASL title in 2014-15, but did not field a team the last two seasons.

Mauricio Salles and Lucas Coutinho, both newcomers to the Tropics this campaign, each scored twice. Salles has four goals in two games for Florida, raising his career arena mark to 198 goals in 163 games. He played for Sonora last season.

The Flash got single goals from Erik Flores, Miguel Vaca, Armando Teran, Edgar Gonzalez and Carlos Hernandez.

The game was tied 2-2 into the second period when the Flash converted two straight power play chances to take a 4-2 lead. In all, they were 3-for-4 with the man advantage, while Florida did not score on its lone man up situation.

Florida falls to 1-1 on the season, and will have it's home opener next Saturday, Nov. 11 against the Cedar Rapids Rampage, Monterrey, 1-0, will have a home and home with Sonora, starting Thursday, Nov. 16 on the road, and back home on Nov. 19.
