TROPICS BEAT AMBUSH 9-5 FOR 4TH STRAIGHT WIN

St. Charles, Missouri (March 6, 2022) – The St. Louis Ambush lost 9-5 to the Florida Tropics Sunday afternoon at The Family Arena. The loss dropped the Ambush to 7-10-2 on the season, while the Tropics improved to 14-1-1. The Ambush get a split in the weekend’s action after defeating the Milwaukee Wave Friday night.

Florida took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter on goals by Junior Alencar and Ricardo de Queiroz Diegues. The second period saw only one goal and that came from Florida’s Zach Reget. The Ambush outshot the Tropics 20-11 in the first half, but had nothing to show for their efforts on the scoreboard. Florida enjoyed a 3-0 lead at the halftime break.

The Ambush finally got on the board in the fourth minute of the third stanza when Duduca Carvalho sent a pass to Lucas Almeida, who placed an upper ninety shot in the goal to make it 3-1. St. Louis shaved the lead further when Will Eskay took a shot that was saved by Florida goalkeeper Rainer Hauss, who couldn’t get control of the ball that rolled to Robert Kristo, who was able to finish and make it a 3-2 game. The Tropics got that one back nine seconds later when Reget struck again to give the visitors a 4-2 lead. Florida scored again just over three minutes later when St. Louis’ Jeff Michaud sent an errant pass to Florida’s Drew Ruggles, who blasted a shot by Ambush goalkeeper Tito Favela to increase the gap to 5-2. St. Louis nearly scored as the quarter wound down when JT Thomas put the ball in the net, but not before the period-ending buzzer.

St. Louis scored in the second minute of the final frame when Duduca Carvalho was able to finish off a pass from Marcel Berry for a 5-3 score. The Ambush made is 5-4 when Kristo nailed his second of the contest in the fifth minute of the period. Alencar scored his second of the match 34 seconds later to give Florida a 6-4 lead. St. Louis went on a power play when Florida’s Anthony Arico was sent off for kicking and the Ambush made good on the opportunity when Mo Ndiaye scored to again make it a one-goal game (6-5). Less than a minute later, Victor Parreiras scored for Florida to make it 7-5. With the sixth attacker in play for the Ambush, Diegues scored his second of the game to increase Florida’s lead to 8-5. The Tropics continued to pile on as Chad Vandegriffe scored an empty-netter with just over a minute left in the game for a final score of 9-5.

St. Louis outshot Florida 34-21, but Florida proved to be better at finishing, as evidenced by the final score.

The Ambush get next weekend off before hosting the Milwaukee Wave on Friday, March 18 at 7:35 p.m. CDT at Axius Field at The Family Arena. The two teams then travel to Milwaukee to butt heads again at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena on Sunday, March 20 at 1:05 p.m. CDT. Given their current positions in the standings, both games could be intense, “make-or-break” affairs for each team’s playoff hopes.
