The El Paso Coyotes lose their 3rd straight

The red hot Sonora Soles proved to be too much for the rookie Coyotes’ franchise in front of a packed out stadium with a reported attendance of almost 7,000. The Soles dismantled the Coyotes 18 – 10.

The Coyotes now fall to 0-3, while the Soles improve to 3 -1.

Coyotes rookie goalkeeper Jose Torres had 12 saves in his first game against the Soles but it was not enough to counter the Soles offensive strategy led by Soles star forward Franck Tayou. Tayou led the both teams with 4 goals and 3 assists (7pts).

Soles defensive player Damian Garcia also performed well in his first game against the Coyotes with 3 goals, doubling his goal total from 3 to 6 for the season.

Coyotes’ rookie players Leobardo Siqueiros and Omar Ledesma continued their strong play with 2 goals each. This is the second game in a row they lead the Coyotes’ offense in points. Coyotes’ rookie defender Misael Villarreal scored his first two goals of the season, both coming in the second half.

The game started with a quick goal by Coyote’s midfielder Omar Ledesma off an assist by Coyote’s defender Leobardo Siqueiros. The Soles then gained some momentum scoring three straight goals eventually taking a 3-1 first quarter lead. The Coyotes then scored the first goal of the second quarter to cut the lead down to 3-2. The Soles followed up by scoring another three straight goals before Coyotes’ rookie forward Andoni Eugui scored his first and only goal of the game, off an assist from Coyote’s rookie forward David Salas, at the 11:06 mark. The Soles then closed out the first half with two more goals to make it an 8 – 3 half-time lead.

The Coyotes continued their “score first” play with the first goal of the second half by Eric Hernandez, off an assist by Arturo Vega, to make it 8 – 4. From their it was a scoring frenzy from both teams, each taking and making shots back and forth, eventually ending the third quarter with the Soles leading 14 – 8. The Soles then closed out the Coyotes with a 4 -2 fourth quarter, finishing the game 18 – 10.

Special note: The Coyotes have scored the first goal in each of their first three games.

Saturday’s matchup was the first of four meetings between the two teams. Their next matchup, against each other, will be on Friday, December 10th at the El Paso County Coliseum in El Paso, Texas.
