STARS TOP STRYKERS FOR THIRD TIME THIS SEASON

by Pete Richmire

Kent, WA. - For the third consecutive meeting the Tacoma Stars (5-4-0) scored seven goals against the Empire Strykers (2-9-0), and for the third consecutive meeting, the Stars topped their opponent from Southern California. This one may sting a bit more for the Strykers as they held a one-goal lead with less than three minutes to go.

A game-tying goal from Stars goalkeeper Chris Toth leveled the game with 2:18 left to play and Kyle Rivers sent home the game-winner with 1:31 left in regulation. Tacoma withstood the Empire 6th attacker offense to pick up their fifth win of the season.

Despite four-point games from Justin Stinson and Marco Fabián with three goals and an assist apiece, Tacoma endured and put nine standings points between them and fifth-place Empire.

The Strykers tried to send a message early and establish the tone from the start but a hat-trick by Nick Perera and four-point game from Jamael Cox was enough to fend off the visitors.

Next up for the Stars is their fifth time facing the San Diego Sockers with this being the final matchup between the teams at the accesso ShoWare Center. Kickoff is set for 5:05 pm on Sunday.
