by Pete Richmire

ONTARIO, CA. –  The Tacoma Stars (4-4-0) finished a tough weekend of opponents and travel with a 7-5 win on the road against the Empire Strykers (2-7-0). After playing San Diego last night at home, Tacoma had to scramble to catch flights whenever possible to get the team to Southern California to play today’s game.

Despite the challenges, the team came out running and took a 3-0 lead after one quarter of play. Each team managed a goal in the second quarter and the Stars went to the break leading Empire 4-1.

The lone goal of the third quarter went to the Strykers and Tacoma led 4-2 as the teams went to a shootout called the fourth quarter.

The teams combined for six goals through the first three quarters and then six more in just the final 15 minutes of play.

The Stars stretched their lead to three goals twice in the fourth quarter before the Strykers came within one goal at 6-5 with 1:28 left to play. Tacoma was able to withstand Empire’s sixth-attacker and got a goal in the final second to seal the 7-5 win.

The Stars are off until they return home to host the Strykers on Thursday, January 25 at 7:05 pm and the Sockers on Sunday, January 28 at 5:05 pm. Tickets are available at www.tacomastars.showare.com today!
