ST. LOUIS AMBUSH SIGN FREE AGENT STEFAN MIJATOVIC

ST CHARLES, Missouri (July 17, 2020) – The St. Louis Ambush have signed free agent Stefan Mijatovic to a three-year deal, the team announced today. Per league and team policies, no further details of the contract have been disclosed.

Mijatovic hails from Elmhurst, Illinois and played collegiate soccer at Morraine Valley Community College in nearby Palos Hills, Illinois. He began his MASL career with the Chicago Mustangs, appearing in seven games during the 2016-17 season. He returned to the league with the Orlando SeaWolves for the 2018-19 season, making five appearances. Mijatovic joined the Florida Tropics last season, appearing in 11 games. In his 23 career MASL games, Stefan has tallied five goals and two assists while blocking seven opposing shots.

Mijatovic is also a multi-sport athlete, having competed globally in taekwondo. He vied in the U.S. Open Taekwondo Championships and was a Silver Medalist in the 2012 AAU Nationals. Mijatovic said taekwondo has also helped him as a soccer player, improving his agility and toughness.

Although most of Mijatovic’s experience has been on defense, Ambush Head Coach Hewerton said he intends to convert him to a target forward. “At six foot five, Stefan bring an imposing physical presence to our team and we intend to put that to good use on offense,” Hewerton said.

Ambush General Manager Jeff Locker said, “Stefan is an impressive athlete who we feel has a lot of potential and who our fans should enjoy watching as he continues to develop his skills and contribute to our success.”

Mijatovic welcomes the opportunity to play for the Ambush saying, “I want to thank Hewerton and the entire Ambush organization for bringing me here to St. Louis. I am super excited to start a new chapter in my career here and be part of such an incredible organization. I also can’t wait to be play in front of the amazing St. Louis Ambush fans and the huge Balkan community here.”
