ST. LOUIS AMBUSH PULL OFF A PRESIDENTS’ DAY VICTORY

St. Charles, MO. – The St. Louis Ambush defeated the Dallas Sidekicks 10-7 Monday afternoon at The Family Arena. The win improves the Ambush to 6-9-1 on the season, while Dallas drops to 0-13-2.

St. Louis got on the board first when Will Eskay placed a high shot on target in the third minute of the first quarter. Dallas drew even in the eleventh minute of the period on a goal by Rio Ramirez. The opening quarter elapsed with the score knotted.

The Ambush took a 2-1 lead when Duduca Carvalho drew Dallas goalkeeper Juan Gamboa out just far enough to lob the ball over his head in the sixth minute of the second frame. In the ninth minute, Billy Stimac fired a shot into the board, the rebound found Antonio Manfut near the goal mouth and he tapped the ball in to make it 3-1 for St. Louis. With the time clock running down, each team would find the back of the net one more time in the final minute of the half. The Sidekicks scored with 45 seconds left when Renato Torquato was able to draw goalkeeper Paulo Nascimento out just enough to get off a good shot. Eskay answered for St. Louis with his second tally of the contest with nine seconds on the clock, giving the Ambush a 4-2 lead at halftime.

In the second minute of the third quarter, with several players from each team clustered near the goal trying to seize control of the ball, Brian Bement managed a shot that found its mark to put St. Louis up 5-2. The home team went up 6-2 when Pepe Junqueira and Lucas Almeida combined for a goal. Pepe passed to Almeida, who sent it back to Pepe, who put the ball in the net in the ninth minute of the period. Torquato answered for Dallas 22 seconds later to make it 6-3. In the twelfth minute, Paulo made a save, but the ball was still loose and Cameron Brown headed it in to shave St. Louis’ lead to 6-4. Eskay completed the hat trick with an upper ninety shot in the fourteenth minute to give the Ambush a 7-4 lead.

Dallas crawled back within two when Ambush defender Guernsey inadvertently tapped in a ball he was trying to clear out of the goal mouth in the second minute of the fourth quarter. The Sidekicks goal was credited to Trevor Norman and the score was 7-5. In the fourth minute, Ambush rookie Dom Alvarado, playing in his first game, scored with an absolute rocket off the goalpost, to give his team an 8-5 lead. With the sixth attacker in play for Dallas, Kevin Ellis scored for St. Louis to make it 9-5 in the seventh minute. Ellis did it again with an empty netter in the thirteenth minute to give St. Louis a 10-5 lead. Blas Perez scored on a restart 24 seconds later, followed by another Dallas goal from Roman Torres, to make it a three-goal game (10-7) with less than two minutes remaining. St. Louis held on and brought home the Presidents’ Day win.
