SPIRITS SIGN FREE AGENT PATRICK THOMPSON

Allentown, PA – The Lehigh Valley Spirits have signed free agent defender Patrick Thompson ahead of their inaugural MASL season in 2026-27.

Thompson, 35, becomes the first free agent signing in franchise history after spending the last four seasons with the Baltimore Blast.

One of the most experienced defenders in the MASL, Thompson has appeared in 213 career regular-season games, ranking 11th all-time in league history. Across a 12-year professional indoor career, he has totaled 79 goals and 54 assists for 133 points while suiting up for the Harrisburg Heat (2014-16, 2018-20), Syracuse Silver Knights (2016-18), St. Louis Ambush (2021), Utica City FC (2021-22), and Baltimore Blast (2022-26).

Last season, Thompson recorded a career-high 10 goals while adding five assists in 22 appearances for Baltimore. He also scored one goal in two playoff games during the Blast’s semifinal round series against the Milwaukee Wave.

Earlier this month, Thompson competed in The Soccer Tournament (TST) in Cary, North Carolina as a member of Charmour 410 alongside Spirits goalkeeper and Assistant General Manager William Banahene.

Born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia, Thompson began his soccer journey locally before making the transition to the professional indoor game in 2013. In addition to his playing career, Thompson has also served as Technical Director for the Capital Area Soccer Association (CASA), helping oversee player development and programming for one of central Pennsylvania's leading youth soccer organizations.
