Sockers Stifle Sidekicks, Win 8-4
DALLAS (November 5, 2016) The San Diego Sockers continued on the #Questfor15 in winning style. With over 3,500 fans willing the hometown team to victory, Kraig Chiles and co. delivered in stunning fashion to beat the Dallas Sidekicks 8-4.
It was the Sidekicks second game in as many days, but that didn’t stop the traditional rivalry from living up to its billing. There were goals, tackles and all around great indoor soccer action.
Captain Kraig Chiles, continuing to chase history as the Sockers all-time leading goal scorer, pitched in with two first half goals. Erick Tovar continued his fine form with a second minute goal and an assist.
In two important moments, a pair of new Sockers signings, Felipe Gonzalez and Brandon Escoto, recorded their first ever goals in a San Diego uniform.
A comfortable 4-1 lead at half time was almost erased in the final 15 minutes. Dallas scored two quick 4th quarter goals to tighten the game to 5-3, but it was all San Diego after that.
Brandon Escoto bamboozled the Sidekicks defense with his left foot to score the sixth goal. Veteran forward Anthony Medina took care of the rest, scoring two well taken goals.
The Sockers faced a Dallas Sidekicks team that had averaged 12 goals in their last two games, but held them to just four goals. Sockers goalkeeper Chris Toth recorded 20 saves and even had a shot on target.
The Sidekicks travel to Tijuana tomorrow to face Atletico Baja in the last of their three game, three day road trip.
