Sockers Steamroll Turlock Express 12-1

(October 29, 2016) The San Diego Sockers steamrolled the Turlock Express in the 2016-2017 Home Opener. With over 3,000 fans in attendance, many in costumes, boisterously cheering on the hometown team, the Sockers did not disappoint.

Former 3-Time MVP and Captain Kraig Chiles scored a first half hat trick as the Sockers raced out to a 9-0 half time lead.

Veteran Eddie “Vaquero” Velez showcased his “Jarabe Tapatio” dance early into the first half with a pair of goals.

Newcomer standout, Max Touloute, bagged his first two goals for the Sockers as he raced away from defenders all night.

With the match well in hand, San Diego turned on the style. Crafty new signing Brandon Escoto dribbled around defenders. Luan Oliveira was silky, unsteadying the Turlock defense with his passing and movementoff the ball.

Raymundo Reza, Victor Quiroz, Ze Roberto and Scott Martin provided stability at the back.

Chris Toth was imperious in goal. Toth saved 21 of the 22 shots he faced. His goalkeeping counterparts, Edgar Martinez and Christopher Welch weren’t as lucky. They could only save 20 of the Sockers’ 32 shots.

Turlock’s Jose Barajas gave the Express some redemption by scoring Turlock’s only goal on in the second half.

A fourpack of new signings made their debuts; Touloute, Escoto, Cesar Cerda, and Felipe Gonzalez. They didn’t take long to settle in and it showed on the field.

The Sockers are back in action next week when they host traditional rival Dallas Sidekicks at Valley View Casino Center. Kickoff is slated for 7:05pm PT.
