Hat-Tricks from Gurson and Cruz Lead the Way

LAKELAND, FL – After a great 3-0 start to the game, the Orlando SeaWolves battled a fiery Florida Tropics team to win on the road, thanks to hat tricks from Gordy Gurson and Eduardo Cruz.

“Any time you’re getting a win, you’re happy,” Head Coach Tom Traxler said after the game. “Getting a win that gets us to 5-5 was massive tonight, against a team that in the Florida Tropics, that we knew would come out all guns blazing.”

Orlando blazed out of the gates with a 2-0 lead, with goals from Osvaldo Rojas and Mario Alvarez. Gordy Gurson added a third before Florida finally broke through late in the second quarter. Both teams went to the locker room with the score at 3-1.

The action picked up in the second half as Florida began to push for more goals. Gurson opened up the scoring in the 3rd quarter, but Florida pulled two back in quick succession to make it a one-goal game in the middle of the 3rd quarter.

Orlando came right back and scored three goals in a row, thanks to Alvarez, Eduardo Cruz, and Gurson, opening up a 7-3 lead heading into the 4th quarter.

Florida continued to push their way back into the game, scoring two goals halfway through the quarter to cut it to a two-goal deficit. Cruz scored a goal when the goalkeeper was pulled, but Florida pulled that goal right back just seconds later.

Orlando pulled away in the last few minutes, with goals from Thiago Freitas and Cruz within a 20-second span, pulling away from the Tropics and winning 10-6.

The SeaWolves will play their next two games on the road, playing on Friday, February 22nd at the St. Louis Ambush, then on Sunday the 24th against the Kansas City Comets.
