Midfielder comes to SeaWolves after career season in El Paso

ORLANDO, Florida (May 28, 2019) – The Orlando SeaWolves continue to build their 2019-2020 roster with the addition of one of the top dynamic goal scorers from last season, Hugo Puentes; signing him to a five-year deal. Per team and league policies, no further details were disclosed.

The midfielder joins the SeaWolves having spent the past two seasons with the El Paso Coyotes. In the 2017-18 Puentes enjoyed a successful rookie campaign, scoring 28 goals while adding seven assists. That offensive production increased last season as he scored 27 goals and added 22 assists for 49 points on the season. In just two seasons in the league, Puentes has scored 55 goals, had 29 assists and 89 points. His 2018-19 numbers were all top 10 in the entire MASL for goals, assists, and points.

"Hugo has been a dynamic player for El Paso over the past two years,” SeaWolves General Manager Chris Kokalis said. “His style of play, to go along with his tireless work ethic offensively and defensively, fits the mold of the type of player we wanted to add to our roster this offseason.”

Puentes now reunites with his former teammate and recently acquired forward Omar Tapia, who played with Hugo in El Paso over the last year and a half, before being traded towards the end of the season to Turlock. The two Mexico natives join fellow countryman Osvaldo Rojas in the front line for the upcoming season. The three combined last year for 73 goals, 44 assists, and 117 points.
