SeaWolves Acquire Big Body Schmermund from Ambush
ORLANDO, FL – The Orlando SeaWolves, Central Florida’s new Major Arena Soccer League team, closed out a busy May by acquiring defender Richard Schmermund from the St. Louis Ambush for future considerations, pending league approval.
Schmermund has spent his entire career in the St. Louis area, debuting with the Illinois Piasa and then joining the Ambush midway through their return season in 2013/14. Still only 25 despite having five full seasons under his belt, Schmermund has produced 31 goals and 15 assists in 89 games. The big 6’2” d-man has also racked up 55 penalty minutes.
“Richard is a physical presence on the field,” said SeaWolves General Manager Chris Kokalis. “He gives us size and toughness in the back, and he can contribute offensively as well.”
