Roster Updates

The first official month of the 2022-23 season is in the books. Here’s a recap of the roster moves that happened throughout June. As summer keeps heating up we are sure to see teams start making big plays to solidify their opening night rosters.

Baltimore Blast

June 15 - 

Ricardinho Sobreira - The Blast added Ricardinho Sobreira formerly of the Florida Tropics to their team. The Sao Paulo, Brazil native will be entering his seventh season in the MASL.

 

Chihuahua Savage

June 30 - 

Marlon Castillo - A newcomer to the league with an impressive resume that includes: ZINA NFL CHAMPION and a three time FIFA 7 MX finalist.

Tony Medina – Another impressive newcomer who promises, "To the fans: Support us, we're going with everything to win."

June 20 - 

Erick “Jhon” Ponce – The Mexico City midfielder returns for this fourth season of MASL play. Last season he recorded three assists through six games played.

June 17 - 

Luis “Cuate” Medrano – The defender returns for his sophomore season with the Savage. In his first season he played 20 games and recorded 8 points, and 24 blocks.

June 15 - 

David "Gonzo" Gonzalez – Fifteen goals, four assists through 20 games last season for the Savage. Gonzalez rejoins the squad for this second season of MASL play.

June 13 - 

Uriel Zuart – The point producing defender is back for his second season in the MASL. He promises to come back even stronger this season.

June 9 - 

Hugo “La Roca” Puentes – The hometown player will be entering into his fifth season in the MASL. Last season he combined for 34 points through 21 games.

June 7 -

Enrique "Kike" Cañez – The veteran midfielder will look to build on his 31-point season last year. Cañez played for the Monterrey Flash in 2018-19

 

Dallas Sidekicks

June 24 -

Kristian Quintana – The veteran defender has been with the Sidekicks for six seasons and this will be his seventh. Throughout his time with the Sidekicks, Quintana has played 61 games and has a total of six goals and six assists. Also, he has a total of 49 blocked opponent shots as a Sidekicks player.


June 10 -

Juan Gamboa - Gamboa received 2nd Team All-MASL Honors in the 2021-2022 MASL Season and has been with the Sidekicks for six seasons. Gamboa has played 98 games

for the Sidekicks and is chasing former Sidekicks goalkeeper Sagu who has 136 games played.


Florida Tropics

June 29 -

Chad Vandegriffe - The reigning Major Arena Soccer League Defender of the Year has re-signed with the Florida Tropics for three years. Vandegriffe led the MASL in blocks last season with 54. The native of St. Louis, will be starting his ninth year in the MASL.


Kansas City Comets

July 1 - 

Nacho Flores – The midfielder has re-signed with the club for two years. Flores joined the squad in 2016-17 and will be entering his seventh season with the Comets. The Santiago, Chile native has seen action in 110 career regular-season games for the Comets with 45 goals and 46 assists in that span. He has also racked up 68 blocks during his career thus far. His best season as a Comet was the 2017-18 campaign, when Flores tallied 16 goals and 19 assists in 22 games.

June 9 -

Steven Tekesky - The Comets added to their goalkeeper corps with the signing of West Virginia University standout. As a three-year starter for the Mountaineers, Tekesky finished in the school's Top 10 all-time for matches played, minutes played, wins, starts, shutouts, and saves. Tekesky, a Raymore, Missouri native earned a MAC Tournament MVP trophy and multiple All-MAC First Team honors during his collegiate career.


Monterrey Flash

June 29 - 

Genaro Castillo – The rookie midfielder was scouted through Monterrey’s “Ambassador Flash” Scouting Program. He is currently a part of the Thunder FC, a team from Monterrey that plays in the Liga Nacional de Futbol Bardas Profesional.

June 27 - 

Jorge Luis "Russian" Cortez

June 24 - 

Carlos Pichardo - Defender Carlos Pichardo will once again wear the Monterrey Flash colors for 2022-23 MASL season. Pichardo has been a fundamental piece of the team since his arrival in 2013, including the championship won in 2015.

June 22 - 

Erick Tovar – The Monterrey native is coming home to play for the Flash once again after four seasons with the San Diego Sockers.

June 20 - 

Erick Rosas – The Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico native returns to the Flash for his third season and sixth in the MASL. In the shortened 2019-20 season he had 13 points through 18 games played.\

June 16 - 

Juninho -  A Brazilian defender, was the captain of Tigres when Lucas Lobos left and until the end of his career. He won four league championships and one Cup championship, in addition to the fact that with 32 goals scored, he is the defender with the most goals in the history of the UANL team.

Walter Ayoví - Ayoví is another emblematic player and the star of the Ecuadorian National Team. Walter played the Club World Cup with Rayados and the FIFA World Cup with his country's national team.

Israel Jiménez - The "Pilot" Jiménez is considered one of the most successful Monterrey soccer players of all time, since in addition to the 5 leagues and the Cup that he won with Tigres, he was a key piece for Mexico winning the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics. Juninho and Israel were also runners-up in the 2015 Copa Libertadores.

Cristian Hernandez – Another product of the “Ambassador Flash” Scouting Program. This rookie goalkeeper will look to make his mark in the MASL.

June 15 - 

Alexis "El Peli" Espinosa - The midfielder who joins the attack and is currently part of CRF Reynosa , a club that plays in the Liga Nacional de Futbol Bardas Profesional.

June 13 - 

Edgar "Chapa" Flores – The seventh-year veteran adds some experience to the Monterrey squad. Flores has 90 points for the Flash over his three seasons.

June 9 -

Diego Reynoso – Starting from the back of the field the goalkeeper is the first official signing for the team after returning from a hiatus due to COVID-19. In 53 games with the Flash, Reynoso has only recorded six regulation losses.


Ontario Fury

June 15 -

Robert Palmer – The veteran defender is locked in for his ninth and tenth season in the MASL. Palmer recorded 22 points last season for the Fury.


St. Louis Ambush

July 1 -

Tyler Turner – The free agent defender comes to the Ambush with both professional and semi-pro experience including playing for the Orlando SeaWolves (2018-19) and Milwaukee Wave (2021) in the MASL. His outdoor experience includes stints with Orlando City SC (MLS and USL-Pro), Orlando City-B (USL), Los Angeles Galaxy (MLS), and Birmingham Legion (USL).


Utica City FC

June 28 - 

Bo Jelovac – The club’s captain isn’t going anywhere. The Serbian native has 43 goals and 42 assists in a Utica shirt.

June 20 - 

Tim Goldman – The Joseph Cairel award winner returns for his third season with Utica City. Last season he had thirteen points in nineteen games.
