Mexican goal scorer joins SeaWolves from Turlock

ORLANDO, Florida (May 22, 2019) – With their first free agent signing of the live period, the Orlando SeaWolves have inked goalscorer Omar Tapia to a five-year deal, adding another weapon to Orlando’s attack. Per team and league policies, no further details were disclosed.

The 6’1” forward joins the SeaWolves after spending time with the El Paso Coyotes and the Turlock Express last season. After spending a year and a half with El Paso, Tapia was traded to Turlock in mid-February, where he scored 13 goals and notched three assists in just eight games played. In total, his 2018-19 season comprised of 23 goals, 12 assists to make 35 points.

In his three seasons in MASL, Tapia has scored 40 goals in 40 games played, adding 26 assists to his stat line. Prior to MASL, Tapia played for the Chicago Mustangs and Monterrey Flash of the PASL, scoring 27 goals and adding 23 assists in just 24 games played.

The forward’s signing marks the second attacking player signed this week, following fellow Mexican Osvaldo Rojas’ re-signing on Monday. Both of them combined have 46 goals and 22 assists between them and will look to equal that productivity for the upcoming season.

"One of our goals heading into the offseason was to add speed,” SeaWolves General Manager Chris Kokalis said. "Omar not only provides that speed but also brings a veteran experience that makes him a great addition for the club.”
