Utica, N.Y. – Utica City General Manager Tommy Tanner announced today that the club has re-signed defender Onua Obasi. Per team and league policies, the terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Obasi, 31, appeared in 17 games with the City last season after signing in November. He recorded 10 points (7-3-10) and 17 blocked shots. The Birmingham, England native is no stranger to the MASL. Obasi played for the Baltimore Blast from 2014-2016, recording 31 points (18-13-31) in 37 career games with Baltimore.

Obasi signed his first professional deal with the Rochester Rhinos of the USL in January 2014. He appeared in 24 matches with Rochester that season, scoring one goal. In the 2015 season, he played 20 games and had 4 assists. He started all three playoff games including the 2-1 victory in the USL Championship against Los Angeles Galaxy II. After the 2015 season, Obasi trialed with the Philadelphia Union in Major League Soccer. He also appeared in 95 career matches with the Ottawa Fury FC of the USL.
