Camarena nets winner, hat trick
Harrisburg, PA (Jan. 28, 2017) — The Chicago Mustangs led just once against Harrisburg, that proved to be enough, as midfielder Alexis Camarena scored 59 seconds into overtime for the win.
Chicago (7-6) ended a three-game losing streak as it topped the Heat (6-8) 7-6 in Farm Show Arena.
Camarena proved his worth repeatedly on Saturday. He scored three goals, including the winner, and manned the net when keeper Jesus Flores picked up a knock. He made a kick save during a Harrisburg breakaway.
The Chicago native failed to score to score in his first 11 outings this season, but now has four goals in the past two games.
There were four ties in the game, including three in the fourth quarter. With 2:58 left, defender Edwin Rojas buried forward Taylor Bond's rebound to level the game at 5.
Harrisburg midfielder Thiago Freitas answered eight seconds later to go back on top. Freitas finished with the team lead in goals with two, along with midfielder Lucio Gonzaga.
Then, sixth attacker Camarena, made another huge play with a side tackle near midfield on the right boards to win the ball back. Bond hit as pass off the back wall to the back post that midfielder Efrain "Wilo" Martinez finished with 1:05 left to send it to overtime.
That set the stage for Camarena's winning heroics. Bond scored his 25th goal of the season, forward Osvaldo Rojas scored for the 10th time in 11 games.
