Bond scores short-handed game-winner

Milwaukee, WI (March 5, 2017) — The Chicago Mustangs wrapped up the 2016-17 season on high note with a game-winning sequence.

After defender Carlos Pichardo received a blue card for a trip with 40.2 seconds left, keeper Jesus Flores gathered a routine save before putting the ball on the ground and playing it long to forward Taylor Bond, who checked in when the Mustangs gained possession.

Bond collected the ball with his chest just short of the third line and turned to face the goal.  He took six touches before playing the ball to defender Luis "Peewee" Ortega on the right wing, who found Bond on the give-and-go for a delicate chip shot on the breakaway for the winner with 14.3 seconds remaining.

The Mustangs (11-9) clinched a winning season and earned their first win over Milwaukee (13-7) of the season with their win at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena to close the season.

Bond had two goals in the game, to finish the year with a career-high 40 goals, he added 14 assists this season to lead the team. Midfielder Efrain "Wilo" Martinez scored two power play goals in the game, including a shootout to bring his season tally to 13 goals. Midfielder Francisco "Paco" Gonzalez scored to bring his total to eight goals and seven assists in his first year with the Mustangs.

Milwaukee midfielder Ian Bennett led his team with two goals to close out the season with 53 goals, which ranks second in the MASL.
