METROSTARS EARN 1ST ROAD WIN OF SEASON

UTICA, NY (March 17, 2019) - A five-point performance from Mo Babouli, which included the game winning goal in the third quarter, paced the visiting Mississauga MetroStars (4-15) to a surprising 9-3 victory over MASL Eastern Division leaders Utica City FC (13-6) in an exciting divisional clash Sunday afternoon at the Adirondack Bank Center in Utica, New York.

The MetroStars enjoyed a brilliant start to the game scoring just 1:31 into the game through Shaun Brown’s 1st of the season while the visitors were shorthanded. But the hosts, clad in an all-green uniform for St Patrick’s Day, responded with two quick goals just 59 seconds apart when Mauricio Salles netted a power play goal and captain Nate Bourdeau tapped in following a Logan Roberts pass.

Less than 3:00 later, Jarred Phillips tied the match for the MetroStars with a right footed strike to the top corner and then, just 37 seconds after that, Damion Graham netted his 14th of the season tapping in a pass from Darren Chambers to give the visitors a 3-2 lead after 15:00.

There was no scoring in the second quarter of play despite a great chance for Utica when Darren Toby rattled a shot off the crossbar. But 6:36 into the third quarter, Domenico Vitale did score an equalizer for the hosts hitting the top corner of the net with a left-footed strike.

However it was all MetroStars after that as Babouli struck for his first of three goals on the day, beating Utica keeper Andrew Coughlin on a second effort. Just over 2:00 later Babouli collected a rebound of his own shot and fed Chambers who scored his 5th of the season to give Mississauga a 5-3 lead after three quarters.

The MetroStars pulled away in the fourth quarter, scoring four unanswered goals including two more from Babouli, to give him 20 on the season, and a pair from Shaq Agard. Mississauga goalkeeper Adrian Becic made 13 saves to collect his fourth win of the season.

The MetroStars return home to face Utica City FC in the back half of the home and home Friday, March 22 at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre. It will be Mississauga’s final home game of the seasonKickoff is 7:35pm (ET).
