There may have only been two games this weekend, but there was plenty of action. The El Paso Coyotes made some noise this weekend with their third win of the season, and they have the highest representation on the Week Five Team of the Week.

The MASL Team of the Week is selected using the Stars awarded at each game and by soliciting nominations from each team. Players nominated by teams were each awarded three points and stars were awarded 3 points (1st Star), 2 points (2nd star) and 1 Point (3rd star) respectively.

Jesus Molina (El Paso Coyotes) – Molina stood tall for El Paso against one of the MASL’s highest scoring offenses. Soles de Sonora averaged double-digits in goals per game last year and Molina was able to keep their team to only 9 goals in an exciting overtime match.

Joshio Sandoval (Cedar Rapids Rampage) – The Rampage jumped out to a big lead early and kept the St Louis Ambush on their heels through much of the first half. The veteran defender also helped to hold off a late rally from the Ambush, adding a goal and an assist to the team’s efforts.

Ernesto Luna (El Paso Coyotes) -  The Coyotes defense has been putting teams on notice this season, holding back their opponents and Luna has been a big part of that. On Saturday night, Luna helped his team to their first franchise win against Sonora with an overtime goal 20 seconds into the extra period.

Gordy Gurson (Cedar Rapids Rampage) – The Rampage won their second straight game on Saturday night, thanks in large part to Gurson’s efforts. He led all scorers with his first hat trick of the season

Alex Caceras (El Paso Coyotes) – Caceras was given a heavy defensive workload against Sonora in their match Saturday. He not only helped to defend his team’s victory, but added to it with two goals and an assist.

Franck Tayou (Soles de Sonora) – Last season’s MVP put his team on his back as he tried to lead his team to victory. Tayou scored four goals and an assist in the shootout against the Coyotes
