MASL Team of the Week - Week 11

KANSAS CITY (January 10, 2018) – 2018 kicked off with some exciting action. There were major comebacks, overtime games and big wins. The Major Arena Soccer League announced today that the following players were named to the Team of the Week for Week 11

The MASL Team of the Week is selected using the Stars awarded at each game and by soliciting nominations from each team. Players nominated by teams were each awarded three points and stars were awarded 3 points (1st Star), 2 points (2nd star) and 1 Point (3rd star) respectively.  

GOALKEEPER:

William Vanzela (Baltimore Blast) – This is the second straight week for Vanzela on the Team of the Week. This time he did it by holding the Heat to only three goals and standing strong in overtime to preserve the win for the Blast.

DEFENSE: 

Alain Matingou (Tacoma Stars) – One of the Stars’ new additions for the season, Matingou has worked hard to win over his new fans. Against the Ontario Fury, Matingou scored a goal and two assists as he led his team to a big win.

MIDFIELD:

Kenardo Forbes (Syracuse Silver Knights) – The Eastern Division playoff race is already a tight one and Forbes helped his team stay right in the thick of it. Forbes had a five point night (3 goals, 2 assists), including the game-winning score in overtime against the Florida Tropics.

Ian Bennett (Milwaukee Wave) – This is Bennett’s second straight week on the Team of the Week roster as well. This time he earned his way with five goals and an assist in two games against the Cedar Rapids Rampage.

FORWARD: 

Kiel Williams (Kansas City Comets) – The Comets completed the biggest comeback of the season on Saturday night when they came back from a 6-1 deficit after the first quarter to win 11-9. Williams led the way with five goals, including the game winner with 1:16 left in regulation.

Franck Tayou (Soles de Sonora) – Last season’s MVP scored six goals for Soles as his team dismantled the RGV Barracudas 12-7 on Sunday evening.
