MASL Team of the Week - Week 11

KANSAS CITY (Jan. 10, 2017) – The Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) had nine games last weekend. In six of the nine games, the home team came away victorious. In all of the games, players showcased some amazing achievements. These are the six players who stood out above the rest.  

The MASL Team of the Week is selected using the Stars awarded at each game and by soliciting nominations from each team. Players nominated by teams were each awarded three points and stars were awarded 3 points (1st Star), 2 points (2nd star) and 1 Point (3rd star) respectively.

Goalkeeper:                                                 
Christopher Welch (Turlock Express)
– Welch faced a barrage of shots from the visiting Ontario Fury on Friday. He turned in the league’s best effort this week with 17 saves and a .810 save percentage.

Defender:                                         
Patrick Healey (Baltimore Blast)
– In only his third game since returning from his short-lived retirement, Healey led his team with two blocks and chipped in a goal and an assist to help his team defeat the Dallas Sidekicks on Saturday.

Midfielders:
Miguel Vaca (Chicago Mustangs)
– The Mustangs are the only team to defeat the Cedar Rapids Rampage this season. On Friday, Vaca made sure their record remained intact against their Central Division rivals. He scored four goals on four shots to lead his team to victory.
Angel Curiel (Cedar Rapids Rampage) – In one of the closest games of the weekend, Angel Curiel nearly helped his team to a league-best eight game winning streak. He scored two goals in the match, including a late equalizer.

Forwards:
Freddy Moojen (Florida Tropics)
– The veteran forward kicked off a four-goal third quarter for Florida, then added two more and an assist as the Tropics continue to impress the rest of the league, this time with a win against the Dallas Sidekicks
Kraig Chiles (San Diego Sockers) – Chiles followed up on his record-setting performance last week with a hat trick against the Ontario Fury on Sunday night. The game marked his third game with three or more goals this season.
