MASL NAMES AWARD WINNERS FOR FEBRUARY/MARCH
KANSAS CITY (Feb 7, 2017) – The 2016-2017 regular season has come to a close, but not before some of the most exciting action in recent memory. Before the calendar turns towards the playoffs, the Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) announced their monthly award winners this morning.
Goalkeeper of the Month – Stephen Paterson (Kansas City Comets)
Stephen Paterson has had a stellar season for the Kansas City Comets and helped to lead the MASL’s third ranked defense. In February, Paterson went 4-1 in the month as his Comets secured their third straight regular season Central Division title. Paterson did his job in the net and contributed to the Comets cause with two assists and his second goal of the season during the month.
Player of the Month – Leonardo De Oliveira (Ontario Fury)
Leonardo De Oliveira lifted his team on his back and carried them into the playoffs with one of the most successful months any player has seen in recent years. He tallied 27 points on the month in seven games. In the last five games, as the Ontario Fury faced elimination, De Oliveira scored 15 goals and 7 assists.
Coach of the Month – Bernie Lilavois (Ontario Fury)
When the calendar turned to February, the San Diego Sockers and Tacoma Stars were running away with the division. Once the month got going, Bernie Lilavois put together a plan to get his team back in the hunt. The Ontario Fury won six of seven games, including winning a three-games in three-days road trip from Feb 24-26. Another win last Friday in Turlock secured their season comeback and clinched their spot in the postseason tournament.
