HARRISBURG HEAT SIGN STEPHEN BASSO, FORMER DEFENDER OF THE YEAR RETURNS

The Harrisburg Heat are pleased to announce that they have signed Stephen Basso. Per team and league policies, financials terms of the agreements are not disclosed.

Basso, who was in retirement, has had an outstanding career in professional indoor and outdoor soccer. He played for the Heat for several years and retired after the 2017/2018 season. During the 2016/2017 season, Basso was named 1st Team All MASL and was honored as the League Defender of the Year.

Harrisburg Head Coach and General Manager Pat Healey is pleased about the signing of Basso. Healey said: “I am very excited to bring back a former Defensive Player of the Year. You are looking to get a two-way defender and that is what Stephen is. He has the ability to shut down the other team’s best forward and get some goals, especially on free-kick situations. Stephen will also bring veteran experience and leadership to our defense.”

Basso said “I am extremely excited and happy to be back with the Harrisburg Heat this coming season. I spent over half of my career between outdoor and indoor playing for this city so it’s only right to make my comeback here. A big thank you to Pat, Kevin and Carl for the opportunity to get back on the field and compete once again.”

Basso added “Also, a big thank you to my family for supporting me as always. Can’t wait to get to work and play in front of our amazing fans again!”

The MASL stretches across North America with teams in the United States and Mexico. The 2021-2022 MASL schedule is expected to be announced very soon. The Heat regular season will begin in December and end in early April. For ticket information, please contact the Heat at tickets@harrisburgheat.com.
