FURY WINS 7-4 OVER THE STARS TO EVEN SEASON SERIES

ONTARIO, CALIFORNIA (Jan. 20, 2019) - Ontario High School graduate Adrien Perez scored a hat trick on City of Ontario night as the Ontario Fury defeated the Tacoma Stars 7-4 Sunday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena.

Perez, the Major Arena Soccer League’s leading goal scorer, completed his hat trick 3:19 into the fourth quarter as he collected a long throw from goaltender Chris Toth, beat his defender and fired past Tacoma goaltender Michael Arguello to give the Fury a 7-2 lead at the time.

Chico Francisco Cordiero opened the scoring midway through the first quarter. Maicon de Abreu dug out the ball along the boards and sent a pass through the penalty box. Perez dummied at the ball, letting it go through to Cordiero, who blasted it in.

Cordiero and Perez scored within 30 seconds of one another to close out the first quarter. Perez struggled to control the ball while Ontario was on the power play, but he retook the ball and rolled toward the center, where he fired it past Arguello. Just after the Stars’ kickoff, Cordiero took the ball up past midfield, passed it to himself off the boards and fired from the left wing to give Ontario a 3-0 lead after 15 minutes.

Ontario led 4-0 at half, but the Stars broke the shutout from the penalty spot. With Evan McNeley in the penalty box for committing a handball in the penalty box, Tacoma’s player/coach Nick Perera blasted the ball to the right side of the Ontario goal. Perera ended the game scoring three of the Stars’ four goals.

The Fury were also boosted by their three latest signings. Thiago Goncalves, returning the Fury, had an assist, while new arrivals Victor Quiroz and Anibal Echiverria each scored a goal.

Toth had 14 saves for Ontario in the victory.
