FLORIDA TOPS ONTARIO 8-5 FOR SIXTH STRAIGHT WIN

ONTARIO, CA – The Eastern Division champion Florida Tropics avenged their only Major Arena Soccer League regulation time loss in the 2021-22 season with an 8-5 road win against the Ontario Fury Wednesday night at Toyota Arena. 

The Fury dealt the Tropics a 6-5 defeat in Florida’s home opener on Dec. 18, which preceded an eight-game winning streak. The Tropics other loss this season came in a shoot out on the road against the Dallas Sidekicks on Feb. 12. Since then, the Tropics have now won six in a row. 

The game was tight throughout, with the Fury holding one goal leads on two different occasions into the second half. But consecutive goals by Zach Reget, Ricardo Diegues and Victor Parrieras gave Florida (16-1-1a 5-3 just 26 seconds into the fourth quarter. 

Diegues sealed the deal with a spectacular scissors kick goal from the top right of the box with just 1:49 to play. 

Diegues also had an assist for a three point game. Ricardo Carvalho had a goal and three assists for four points, while Reget added two assists for a three-point game. Taylor Walter Bond scored twice, while Breno Oliveria added the other Florida goal. 

Franck Tayou and Jorge DeLeon each scored twice for Ontario (9-7-2). 

The Tropics are assured one of the top three seeds in the MASL post-season by virtue of already having clinched the title in the East. They will host their first ever home playoff game the weekend of April 8-10 against an an opponent still to be determined. 

The Tropics will be back at home Sunday, March 20, for a regular season matchup against the Baltimore Blast, who are still looking to improve their playoff seeding. That game will start at 3:05 p.m. and will be broadcast live on the MASL YouTube channel. 

The “Tropics Blitz” allows for free general admission tickets as a way of providing a great evening of family entertainment for parents and kids who have had their activities curtailed because of the ongoing pandemic. 

Vehicles with two or more persons will pay $20 to park, and then be able to take their parking receipt to the RP Funding Center box office for the same number of free tickets to that day’s game as occupants in the vehicle. Single occupant vehicles will pay just $10 for parking.
