El Paso Coyotes fall short in loss versus Baja Atletico

Tijuana, MEXICO (Feb. 19, 2017) - The El Paso Coyotes were defeated 11 to 9 against fellow division foe, Atletico Baja in an action packed Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) game at the Unidad Deportiva Tijuana in Mexico.

The Coyotes now fall to 0 - 18 as they continue to struggle to win their first Major Arena Soccer League game.

The Coyotes started off strong with the first goal of the game by forward Robert Garcia, but the Atletico quickly answered with a goal of their own just 14 seconds after. From there, it was a scoring shootout between the two teams with the Atletico having a slim 5 to 4 lead at halftime.

The Atletico then gained momentum going on a 4 to 0 run in the first five minutes of the second half. The momentum was finally put to a halt off a goal by Coyotes’ midfielder Bronil Koochoie to make the score 9 to 5. The Atletico’s superstar midfielder Christian Gutierrez scored his 50th goal of the season at the 9:37 mark in the third quarter to make it a 10 to 5 Atletico lead. The Coyotes then gained some much needed momentum scoring four unanswered goals for a 4 to 0 run before the Atletico finally cooled them off with the final goal of the game at the 5:45 minute mark by Atletico midfielder Christian Felix.

Sunday’s matchup was the fourth and final meeting between the two teams. The Atletico swept the season series winning against the Coyotes 14 to 9, 7 to 4, 6 to 5, and 11 to 9, respectively. The Coyotes head back home for their final home game of the season versus the Ontario Fury on Friday, the 24th of February.
