El Paso Coyotes excited, announce key updates for season 2

“Positivity” was the theme Thursday as the El Paso Coyotes held a press conference to share key changes and exciting updates for the new season in the Major Arena Soccer League.

It was a party-like atmosphere as Coyotes President and Co-Owner Gil Cantu welcomed fans, supporters, sponsors, a throng of media and pivotal VIPs, announcing that the Coyotes “are ready to challenge” in their second season competing in the MASL, the highest level of professional arena soccer in the world.

Cantu introduced several key officials, including Brian Kennedy, CEO and president of the El Paso Sports commission, which oversees the El Paso County Coliseum, the team’s home arena, affectionately known as the Coyotes Den.

“It is a great atmosphere of soccer action and family fun,” Kennedy said. “If you haven’t been out to a game yet, you don’t know what you’re missing. We are thrilled to be a part of this.”

The press conference offered a glimpse into that fun, featuring a dancing Max the Coyote mascot, the Coyote Girls, music, giveaways and more. The highlight, however, was when Cantu, with head coach Jose Luis Treviño at his side, talked about the highly touted players that are joining the roster – Cristian Gutierrez,  2nd Team All-MAS,L and one of the top scorers in the MASL last season; Jesus Molina, goalkeeper,  Manuel Rojo, defender, MASL All-Rookie Team last season; Daniel Villela, midfielder; and Ernesto Luna, defender; and Omar Tapia, forward. The Coyotes will be looking to the six to guide the team to its first victory in the league.

“I am very excited about this season,” Cantu said. “This year, we are growing and are making changes that will only make us better. We are all very excited about the future.”

The team’s first home game is set for Saturday, Oct. 28. The team also will be offering a new Coyote Club Card season pass for $149, offering fans prime seating, a jersey and extras. And, once again, games will be streamed live online.
