Dallas Sidekicks win second straight match

Allen, TX (Nov. 4, 2016)— The Dallas Sidekicks (2-0) win a thrilling game 14-7 against the EL Paso Coyotes (0-2) at The El Paso County Coliseum. Sidekicks Forwards, Jamie Lovegrove & Carlos Videla shined, leading the team with a hat trick each tonight.

El Paso took an early 1-0 lead in the first minute of play, scoring their first ever goal at El Paso Coliseum. The lead lasted only minutes as Cameron Brown opened up the Sidekicks scoring tying up the score 1-1. Minutes later Jamie Lovegrove scored a goal to extend the Sidekicks lead to 2-1 with a lovely assist from Richardinho. El Paso quickly responded and scored within 30 seconds of Jamie Lovegrove’s goal and tied up the score at 2-2. Clint Ritter of the Sidekicks’ responded with a wonderful counter attack goal with 3:25 minutes left in the first quarter. El Paso was rentless and scored within minutes of Clint Ritters goal to tie the game up at 3-3. Jamie Lovegrove scored his second goal of night extending the Sidekicks lead to 4-3. El Paso would once again tie up the score at 4-4 with 30 seconds left in the first quarter. Every time the Sidekicks took a lead in the first quarter the El Paso Coyotes would quickly find an answer and kept themselves in the game.

Within minutes of the second quarter, Richardinho scored back-to-back goals putting the Sidekicks up for good with a 6-4 lead. Jamie Lovegrove scored a stunning goal to add to the lead at 7-4, a first half hat-trick for him. Dallas’ defense settled down in the second quarter not allowing a single goal. The Sidekicks would take a 7-4 lead going into the break. Tonight was Dallas’ highest scoring first half since 1/12/16 vs. Brownsville, that game the team scored 7 goals in the first half and final score was 10-4.

Ray Aguayo scored in the opening minutes of the third quarter to extend the Sidekicks lead to 8-4. With 10 minutes left in the third quarter, Carlos Videla would score his second goal of the season, extending the Sidekicks lead to 9-4. Things started to get chippy in the third as multiple fouls and penalties were given to both sides throughout the period.

Misael Villarreal of El Paso found the back of the net to cut into the Sidekicks lead 5-9. Omar Ledezma would score another quick goal to cut into the Sidekicks lead 6-9. Cody Ellis scored his first goal of the night and second goal of the season to extend the Sidekicks lead to 10-6. This is the first time we’ve scored 10 goals in 2 consecutive games since 12/20 and 12/27/14. David Salas of El Paso would score with seconds left in the third quarter to make the score 10-7 Dallas.

Mike Jones found the back of the net in the fourth quarter to extend the Sidekicks lead to 11-7. Carlos Videla would score his second goal of the night and third of the season pushing the Sidekicks lead to 12-7. Jamie Lovegrove found the back of the net once again in the fourth quarter extending the Sidekicks lead to 13-7. A few minutes later Carlos Videla found the back of the net once again giving him the hat trick for the night extending the Sidekicks lead to 14-7.

On Saturday, the Sidekicks will be traveling from El Paso to face the San Diego Sockers. The San Diego Sockers are coming off a 12-1 steamrolling of the Turlock Express this past weekend. Chris Toth was imperious in goal against the Turlock Express, saving 21 of the 22 shots he faced. Sockers’ offense is well distributed through their lineup. Since the return of the Sidekicks in 2012, the two teams have only faced five times – their last meeting taking place on February 28th– with Dallas winning one of two matchups last year.

The rivalry between the Dallas Sidekicks and the San Diego Sockers dates back to 1984. The two teams created several memorable moments in indoor soccer together, including a virtually unheard of 1-0 playoff game on May 20, 1989, and the end of one of the longest winning streaks in professional sports when the Dallas ended San Diego’s 48-game run on Jan. 27, 2013. The Sockers’ will be returning to Dallas to face the Sidekicks on November 12th for their last matchup of the season.

Sunday will mark the end of the Dallas Sidekicks road trip out west, with a matchup against the Atletico Baja. This Sunday will mark the first ever matchup between Baja & the Dallas Sidekicks. Atletico Baja are coming off a 13-4 loss to the Ontario Fury. Baja Midfielder, Cristian Gutierrez leads the team in goals with 2. Baja started Mario Escobar in goal and Escobar faced 18 shots saving only 10 of them. Baja then switched goalies midway through the game to Miguel Marin, Marin faced 7 shots only saving 2 shots. Last season was Atletico Baja first season in the MASL finishing in 2nd place in the Southwest Division, losing in the division semifinals.
