Kansas City scores 7 goals in the second half in team’s first road game

The Kansas City Comets played their first game away from home tonight, traveling to UW Milwaukee Panther Arena to face the Milwaukee Wave. After falling behind in the first half the Comets Leo Gibson and ‘Nacho’ Flores helped Kansas City to outscore Milwaukee 7-4 in the second half. Ultimately, it wasn’t enough though as the Kansas City falls 11-7.

Both teams came into this game off a two-week break. Kansas City opened the game with great pressure on the Wave goalkeeper and defense. Milwaukee was able to hold off the pressure and turn it to their advantage. Robert Renaud and Max Ferdinand each scored two goals in the first half, helping their team to a 7-0 advantage at halftime.

The second half didn’t start out too much different for Kansas City. The Comets continued to pressure the Milwaukee zone, getting off a couple dangerous shots in the process, but Milwaukee was able to score two goals in the first four minutes.

A minute after Ferdinand completed his hat trick to put Kansas City down 9-0, Leo Gibson finally got the Comets on the board off an assist from Flores. That opened a floodgates as Kiel Williams, Bryan Perez, Carlos Tombini and Flores scored five straight goals.

Milwaukee’s Ian Bennett broke up the Comets scoring streak with a Milwaukee goal in the fourth quarter, but Flores and Milan Ivanovic answered right back for Kansas City. With 2:15 to play, the Comets had come back to within 10-7.

However, the comeback was halted when Perez was called for a Pushing penalty with 1:31 to play. With the Comets on the Penalty Kill, Milwaukee’s Bennett was able to beat the pressure and score the game clinching goal with less than a minute to go.
