COMETS SNAP SKID WITH WIN OVER STRYKERS
INDEPENDENCE, MO (February 10, 2024) — The Kansas City Comets brought an end to their eight-game losing streak on Saturday when they beat the Empire Strykers 7-2 at Cable Dahmer Arena.
The game started out fast as former Comet Adam James scored 26 seconds into the contest. About a minute later, Henry Ramirez scored the equalizer. That was all the scoring for the quarter as both teams successfully killed a penalty.
The second quarter belonged to the Comets. Ramone Palmer pounced on a defensive error from Fabian to put the Comets in front early in the second quarter. Lucas Sousa added two more late in the second quarter with a pair of skillful finishes to give the Comets a 4-1 halftime lead.
Neither team scored in the third period, but the Comets managed to kill another penalty. The Strykers attempted to make it interesting when Fabian extended his scoring streak to 12 games to cut the Comets’ lead down to two with over half of the quarter still to play.
This time the Comets responded with a goal from Robert Palmer before putting their foot on the pedal with scores from Ramone Palmer and Nacho Flores. It was a feel of great relief to end a horrid losing streak with a 7-2 win in front of another fantastic crowd.
The difference in this game was the Comets’ relentlessness. They supplied a response after conceding both goals. Nicolau Neto was stellar in goal while the Comets’ offense was much more clinical with seven goals despite getting outshot 43-27.
“It felt like a big weight just came off my chest,” Comets head coach Stefan Stokic said. “I felt like this was the first time this year that we played the entire four quarters. If we can build off of this, then the future is bright.”
The Comets will finish their three-game home stand next Friday, February 16, when they host reigning Ron Newman Cup champion Chihuahua Savage. Tickets are available at www.kccomets.com/tickets.
