COMETS RE-SIGN DEFENDER RAY LEE

KANSAS CITY (August 24, 2022) – The Kansas City Comets announced today that defender, Ray Lee has signed a new two-year contract with the club. Per team and league policies, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Lee is entering his fourth season with the Kansas City Comets. Last season, Lee was an important piece to the Comets’ run to the MASL Playoff Semifinals. In 9 games last season, he scored 9 goals while assisting on 4 others for 13 points, earning him 2^nd Team All-MASL honors. In the playoffs, he scored 2 goals and 2 assists in 5 games. In 23 regular season games with the Comets, Lee has scored 20 goals and 9 assists.

Lee grew up in Kansas City, MO and played for the Sporting KC Academy and Park Hill High School. He starred for four years for the St. Louis University Billikens before being drafted in the MLS SuperDraft by the Philadelphia Union. Lee most recently played outdoor soccer professionally for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC of the USL, but now plans to give the indoor game and the Comets his full attention.

“Although we didn’t get the result we wanted last season, the team grew in ways that will help us win a championship this season,” Lee said. “The support from the community and fans is unmatched. It’s an amazing club to be a part of and I am looking forward to contributing to the team’s success again this winter.”

Comets Head Coach, Leo Gibson says he is looking forward to having Lee on a more permanent basis. “I am excited to have Ray Lee back for another two seasons, but more importantly, having him full time,” Gibson said. “He is a player who we can always count on each and every game.”
