Comets Ink Lenis to 3-year Deal

The Kansas City Comets have signed midfielder Michael Lenis to a three-year deal, keeping him with the Comets through the 2028-29 season. As per team and league policies, the terms of the agreement with the 22-year-old were not disclosed.

Lenis re-signs after setting a career-high 12 goals in the 2025-26 campaign, where he averaged just under a point per game. He returns after gaining his first three years of experience, where he contributed 46 points from 28 goals and 18 assists in 59 regular-season games.

“Mikey is the type of player you want in your locker room and on your team,” said Comets head coach Stefan Stokic. “He brings a great mentality every day, he works, he competes, and he wants to get better. Over the time we’ve worked together, he has continued to grow as a player and as a person, and I believe there is still another level for him to reach.”

Lenis began his career with the Comets in 2023-24, quickly becoming an instrumental player as he helped the Comets to the Ron Newman Cup Finals. Among his standout performances as a rookie include his first career hat trick in a road victory over St. Louis, helping seal the Comets’ postseason berth for a memorable playoff run.

Three years after originally signing for the Comets, his aspirations remain centered around lifting the Ron Newman Cup.

“I’m really excited to be back for another three years and continue representing this club,” Lenis said. “Excited to keep playing alongside this amazing group of guys. I am looking forward to getting back to work and compete for a championship.”

Originally from Weston, Florida, Lenis moved to Kansas City to join the Sporting KC Academy. After advancing through the development system, Lenis signed for Sporting KC II, where he featured in the USL Championship and MLS NEXT Pro.

Signing his second contract in the MASL, Lenis and Stokic share the same vision of bringing the Comets some new hardware over the years ahead.

“Having Mikey commit to the KC Comets for the next three years is very important for us,” Stokic said. “We’re building something here, and players like Mikey are a big part of that. I’m excited to see what we can accomplish together and to watch Mikey continue to develop and make his mark on this club.”
