DALLAS, TX (December 11, 2021) – The Kansas City Comets traveled to Allen, TX, to take on the Dallas Sidekicks at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center, and came away 6-4 winners thanks to a Leo Gibson hat trick and solid play in goal by Nicolau Neto.

The Sidekicks got on the board first on a man-advantage power play after the Comets’ Adam James was called for tripping from behind. Dallas’s goal was scored by Oscar Romero, which turned out to be the only tally of the 1st period.

The Comets tied things up 5 minutes into the second period on a top of the arc restart. Leo Gibson sent a John Sosa pass off the cross bar and into the back of the net to even the score at 1-1. The first half scoring ended at the 8:37 mark in the second quarter when Lucas Sousa sent a shot from distance past a diving Gamboa. The goal was the first of the season for Sousa, last season’s MASL Rookie of the Year. Halftime score: Comets 2, Sidekicks 1.

The Comets struck first in the second half at the 4:38 mark of the 3rd period when Kevin Ellis headed a ball high off the glass above the goal that landed at the feet of Leo Gibson. Gibson quickly deposited the ball past Gamboa for his second goal of the match. Gibson got the hat trick at the 8:35 mark after a frenzy in front of the goal to put the Comets up 4-1. Dallas countered at the 12:06 mark when Felipe De Sousa laced one past Neto to bring the Sidekicks within 4-2. The Comets answered quickly at the 14:11 mark when Gibson sent a ball off the boards that Lucas Sousa one-touched past Gamboa to put the Comets up 5-2 at the end of the 3rd period.

Dallas scored early in the 4th period when De Sousa scored his second goal of the match at the 2:29 mark to narrow the score to 5-3 Comets. The Comets extended their lead again at the 11:04 mark when John Sosa finished off a Mike DaSilva shot that was deflected off the boards right in front of the goal box. The Sidekicks went with a 6th attacker and finished the scoring at the 14:03 mark when Bradlee Baladez slipped a shot past Neto. Final score: Comets 6. Sidekicks 4.

Dallas’ Oscar Romero was issued a red card and ejected from the game in the 3rd period for violent conduct. Gibson’s three goals bring his season total to eight, which leads the MASL.

The Comets return home next Sunday at 4pm to take on the Baltimore Blast at Cable Dahmer Arena. For tickets, please visit ticketmaster.com or for groups of 10 or more, call the Comets at 888-9-COMETS.
