COMETS COMEBACK FALLS SHORT

Milwaukee, Wis. (Nov. 19, 2016) – Special teams were the name of the game tonight UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena as the Kansas City Comets fall to the Milwaukee Wave on the road. Wave forward Ian Bennett led all scorers with three goals and an assist, while defender John Sosa led the way for the Comets with a goal and an assist.

The Milwaukee Wave have been the Comets biggest rivals since the team returned to action in 2010. More often than not, when these two teams get together an end-to-end shootout is about to occur. It looked like tonight would be another one of those games as Milwaukee started the scoring less than a minute into the game and KC’s John Sosa tied it up only a minute later.

The Comets and Wave would trade goals throughout the first two quarters. Stefan Stokic and Bryan Perez scoring for Kansas City and Ian Bennett and Daniel Mattos scoring for Milwaukee as the team’s went to the halftime break.

In the second half, the Comets mental game suffered a setback as they found themselves living in the penalty box. Ignacio “Nacho” Flores found himself in the penalty box three times, but none of them for fouls he committed. He served time for goalkeeper Stephen Paterson twice and once for Robert Palmer while he served his own five minute yellow card penalty.

Milwaukee took advantage of their opportunities and scored on three of their five power play opportunities. Two of Bennett’s three scores came while a man up on the Comets.

With a little over three minutes to play, the Comets found themselves down 6-3. The team put together a valiant comeback effort as Ramone Palmer and Lucas Rodriguez brought them to within 6-5. Ultimately, the team just ran out of time and drops their first road game of the season.
