COMETS CLINCH TRIP TO PLAYOFFS WITH 11-5 WIN VS AMBUSH

by Kansas City Comets

ST. CHARLES, MO. – The Comets (13-6-4) outshot the St. Louis Ambush (4-11-6) by a 30-16 margin at the Family Arena on Sunday afternoon on their way to an 11-5 win that clinched the fourth and final Ron Newman Cup Playoff’s Eastern Conference spot. Kansas City was paced by hat tricks from Lucas Sousa and Michael Lenis in the win.

Aside from Sousa and Lenis, the Comets also benefitted from three-point games by Ramone Palmer (2G-1A) and Ray Lee (0G-3A). Nicolau Neto played 45 minutes in goal to earn the win for Kansas City with Phillip Ejimadu playing the fourth quarter for the Comets.

Needing just a single standings point to lock up a trip to the playoffs, Kansas City took the doubt out of this game early running out to a 3-0 lead after the first quarter and eventually a 7-1 advantage early in the third.

St. Louis, who had a hat trick of their own by James Thomas, cut the Kansas City lead to four goals twice in the second half, lost to the Comets for the fifth time in six meetings as the 2023-24 I-70 Series came to a finish.

The Comets will close out their regular-season schedule by hosting the San Diego Sockers on Saturday, March 23. It will be an evening to remember so go to www.kccomets.com to get your tickets today before they sell out!
