Clare, Santos Selected for MASL International Challenge

St. Charles, MO (May 31, 2017) – San Diego Sockers midfielder Matt Clare and Milwaukee Wave defender Jonatan Santos have been selected to play in the MASL International Challenge game, which is slated for Friday, June 16 at 7:35 p.m. CT at the Family Arena. The special exhibition match will feature players and All-Stars from across the league in a “USA vs The World” format. Clare will play for the US team, while Santos will play for the World squad.

Florida native Clare is a veteran of six seasons, the last two with the Sockers. He has also played for the Norfolk SharX, Wichita Wings, Syracuse Silver Knights and Wichita B-52s. He had a superb 2016-17 season, placing second on his team in points (37) and goals (19) and proving to be an adept playmaker by finishing first on the team in assists (18). He also earned Honorable Mention from the MASL in league’s annual awards following the 2016-17 season. He has scored 20 or more goals in four of his six professional seasons.

Santos hails from Brazil and has nine seasons of professional indoor soccer experience under his belt. In addition to the Wave, he has played for the San Diego Sockers and Cedar Rapids Rampage, where he spent the 2016-17 season before signing with the Wave earlier this month as a free agent. He is no stranger to Milwaukee, having previously spent parts of seven seasons with the club. Santos earned Honorable Mention from the MASL for his 2016-17 season in which he tallied seven goals, 13 assists and 19 blocks in 15 games played.

More players will be announced tomorrow. Each MASL team was invited to nominate their players for the International Challenge match and the International Challenge committee will select the rosters.
