BRETT PETRICEK JOINS COMETS FOR 2018-2019 SEASON

Promising goalkeeper shores up Kansas City defense

KANSAS CITY (July 19, 2018) – The Kansas City Comets announced the newest member of the 2018-2019 team with the addition of goalkeeper Brett Petricek. Per team and league policies, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Petricek broke into the Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) in the 2016-2017 season with the Cedar Rapids Rampage. He recorded his first win in his first game with the Rampage and didn’t look back as he led Cedar Rapids to their only winning season in team history. In that rookie campaign Petricek earned Team of the Week honors twice and was named the December 2016 MASL Goalkeeper of the Month.

“This was a position of need for us and Brett (Petricek) was the first player we targeted,” said head coach Kim Roentved. “His presence in the goal, along with his skills on the ball will vastly improve our outlook for the season.”

For his part, the 27-year-old goalkeeper is ready to come play in Kansas City.

“I’m very excited to be part of such a renowned soccer organization as the Comets. They were the first opponent I played against in the league and now to be on the roster, it seems my football life has come full circle. The fans in Kansas City create a tremendous environment and I look forward to playing for them. Now it’s time to prepare for the upcoming season that will be full of Comets wins.”

Petricek is the second player announced this week after James Togbah was re-signed on Tuesday. The full roster of players under contract to the Comets can be found here.
