BLAST SWEEPS PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARDS

by Lindsay Mogle

The Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) announced today the winners of the Week 3 Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week awards. Lucas Roque, offense and William Vanzela, defense, both of the Baltimore Blast earned the honors.

Baltimore won back-to-back games this past weekend first against the visiting Milwaukee Wave and then away against Utica City FC.

Roque had four goals on the weekend, including the game winner in OT to beat Milwaukee. His power play goal gave the Blast a 5-4 lead with 2:40 left to play in the fourth before Milwaukee tied it with 0:48 to go in regulation. In that same game, Vanzela stopped 12 of 17 shots keeping his team in it to push overtime and eventually capture the win.

Against Utica, Roque had a pair of assists, one being on the game-tying goal in the third and the second of six unanswered Blast goals to finish the game. Vanzela stopped 18 of 21 shots to secure the win once again.

The offensive and defensive players of the week are nominated and voted on by media and broadcasters covering the MASL.

The Baltimore Blast head to Milwaukee for a rematch with the Wave on Saturday, December 18. Watch live on MASLtv.
