Blast Re-sign Defender Mike Deasel to One Year Contract Extension

BALTIMORE, Md. (Oct. 8, 2019) – The Baltimore Blast have announced the re-signing of six year veteran defender Mike Deasel to a one-year contract extension. Per team and league policies, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Deasel, 30, will be entering his seventh season of professional arena soccer, all with the Blast. Deasel has proven to be a durable option for the Blast in defense, having been the only Blast player to play in all 24 regular season games last season. The veteran defender tied for the lead in blocked shots for the Blast last season with 18.

Mike Deasel began his career with the Blast during the 2011-12 season, where he featured 20 times for the Blast in his rookie season. After four years, Deasel then retired from arena soccer to pursue a career as a Baltimore County firefighter. Deasel would return to the Blast at the end of the 2017-18 season. Deasel played in his 100th career regular season Blast game on Friday March 22, 2018 in a 7-1 home victory over the Orlando Seawolves.

Mike Deasel expressed his eagerness to re-join the Blast, stating “I’m excited to be back for my seventh year with the Blast. I’m looking forward to getting back to work and competing for another championship.”

Coach Danny Kelly stated "Re-signing Mike gives us another experienced defender who has helped us win championships here in Baltimore. He gives us a steady, physical presence on the field, as well as a personality we need in the locker room. We're excited to have Mike back."

Deasel will look to put the Blast back on track by claiming the Blast’s eleventh championship. Season tickets and five-game mini plans are now on sale.
