BLAST FALL TO WAVE 5-2

Baltimore, MD (February 22, 2019) – The Blast would fall to the Milwaukee Wave for the second time this season by a score of 5-2.

The Blast would score the game’s first goal through defender Elton de Oliveira’s fourth goal of the season. Only twenty five seconds later, the Wave would equalize through former Blast forward Max Ferdinand’s sixth goal of the season. Both defenses make great plays towards the end of the half to keep the game tied at one entering the second quarter.

The Blast would regain the lead midway through the second quarter with a goal from Adriano Dos Santos. That goal would be his seventh of the season and Mike Deasel’s second assist of the season to make the score 2-1. The league leading goal scorer, Ian Bennett, would collect his 27th goal of the season to equalize for the Wave. Just one minute later, the Wave would take their first lead of the game. Forward Andre Hayne scored his fifth goal of the season from Alex Bradley’s third assist of the season. The Wave would go into the half with a 3-2 lead. Milwaukee out-shot the Baltimore Blast 14-11 in the first half.

The Blast and Wave would keep the score the same with some key saves made from both William Vanzela and Rafael Dias. The Wave would extend their lead with seven minutes remaining in the third quarter, as Marco Leite stole the ball from the defense and scored for the Wave. The Blast would continue to create several great chances in the quarter including a shot off the post from Jonatas Melo. The Wave would hold the Blast scoreless in the third quarter and would retain the 4-2 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Throughout the fourth quarter, both teams would continue to craft excellent chances, yet be denied by both goalkeepers. Tony Donatelli would enter the game as the Blast’s sixth attacker for the last three minutes of regulation. Ian Bennett would capitalize on the Blast’s sixth attacker and score his second goal of the night to complete the Wave’s 5-2 victory.

Four Blast players tallied one point each, while Ian Bennett and Marco Leite led the Wave in points with two each. William Vanzela tallied twelves saves, while Wave goalkeeper Rafael Dias compiled nine saves, six of which were in the fourth quarter. The Blast fall to 9-6 on the season.
